3D to reality with Blender.

3D to reality means that I am placing virtual 3D object to real footage.

My virtual 3D object is an existing "Church of St. Gertrude" in Kaunas, Lithuania. I have generated it from photos, using Photofly software. I couldn't create all model in one scene so I had to combine separate scenes into one using 3D modeling software. I've used Blender.

Autodesk 123D. Design, Catch, Make.

Autodesk released new tools to play with.
There are three options (more details on official page):

123D - Design makeable objects using free 3D CAD software that lets you start with simple shapes and then edit and then tweak them into more complex designs.
123D Catch - Take photos of your favorite people, places and things and let the power of the cloud magically transform them into detailed 3D models.
123D Make - Automatically turn your 3D model into a pattern of flat parts that can be cut and assembled into an artful creation.

2D to 3D with Photofly. 360° Building model.

Making full 3D model of a real building, not just one facade, was quite a challenge. I chose my object to be quite large, but not too complicated in form, but with some really nice details on exterior, so I took photos of "Church of St. Gertrude". It is located in the Old Town of Kaunas and is one of the oldest Brick Gothic churches in Lithuania.

2D to 3D with Photofly. Introduction.

"Capturing the reality as-built for various purposes (renovation, rapid energy analysis, add-on design, historic preservation, game development, visual effects, fun, etc.) is now possible using your standard point and shoot digital camera thanks to advanced computer vision technologies made available through Project Photofly." - this is the official overview found at Photofly. But how good it really is?
